Welcome to The Joy of Training with Dr. WOW Inc.
Whether you are a hands-on trainer, a trainee learning new skills, or you are feeling a bit rusty and want to refresh old skills, The Joy of Training with Dr. WOW Inc. has resources available for you.
I am Wendy O. Williams (AKA Dr. WOW), Founder and CEO of The Joy of Training with Dr. WOW Inc., and creator of the Translational Training ToolsTM method of hands-on training.
The Joy of Training with Dr. WOW Inc. came into fruition through my aspiration to help others achieve their training goals by focusing on:
-
Implementation of Russel and Burch’s concept of the 3 Rs into hands-on training programs.
-
Sharing ideas and options for integrating affordable and effective tools for providing hands-on procedural and technique training.
The Joy of Training with Dr. WOW Inc. strives to make inanimate training tools affordable and accessible to all animal care programs and veterinary educational communities, by providing the following services:
-
Instructions to help trainers create do-it-yourself (DIY) training tools, and other means to incorporate the 3 Rs into hands-on training programs.
-
Training resources such as: Volumes 1 and 2 of Translational Training Tools TM (The 3 Ts)Recipes for Crafting Your Own Purpose Specific Training Tools.
-
Course and webinar content for creating effective inanimate training tools from accessible and affordable materials. Currently in creation mode.
-
Consultation services to help identify the needs and goals of your institutional training programs to enhance your training programs.
-
Career mentorship and coaching to help you achieve your personal and professional goals.
The Joy of Training with Dr. WOW Inc. has application for use in veterinary and veterinary technology training and education programs, veterinary practice, laboratory animal science environments, and for anyone who wants an affordable means to teach, learn, practice, and refine hands-on skills using tools rather than teaching or client animals.

I started my lab animal career as a summer student, washing rodent cages and providing animal husbandry and care to rodent colonies. I was impressed by the level of care and concern the facility staff and researchers had for the animals and felt an immediate connection to the community laboratory animal medicine professionals like you. When accepted as a veterinary student at Ontario Veterinary College (OVC), my goal was to specialize in laboratory animal medicine. After graduating from OVC, I was employed as a clinical veterinarian in several research institutions close to my home in southwestern Ontario, Canada and my enthusiasm for teaching and training continued to grow. However, it was when I moved south of the border for a position at Cornell University that my role in teaching and training soared to new heights. Identifying with the struggles I saw in others, coupled with my service-mindedness and creative abilities, I developed further as an empathetic and effective teacher and trainer.
As the former Assistant Director of Training Services at Cornell University, I created a trademarked training method, Translational Training ToolsTM (The 3Ts). My intention of for the 3Ts was to provide a training method that would serve the 3Rs by implementing a series of inanimate training tools – some commercially available and others DYI – into the institutional animal user training program at Cornell University. With support from Cornell and the CARE Training Team, I shared The 3Ts method with the lab animal medicine community, internationally through webinars, workshops, learning resource centers, and now through The Joy of Training with Dr. WOW Inc.
